THE HEROIC STORY OF THE POLISH HERO WACLAW "DANIEL", LECH" "LECH GRZYBOWSKI" ZAGORSKI WAS BORN

On 28 December 1909, the Polish hero Wacław "Daniel", "Lech", "Lech Grzybowski" Zagórski was born.

Wacław was a commander of the legendary Chobry II Battalion during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. For those who might not be aware, Chobry II Battalion was the battalion that Cpt. Witold Pilecki fought with during the Uprising.

Wacław was also part of "Operation N". Operation N was a sneaky little operation which involved the publishing of a German language magazine Deutschland Erwache.

This German language magazine was written in such a way as to indicate that that there was a German resistance movement against the Nazi's. It would print propaganda against the Nazi Party, as if it was coming from Germans who were resisting. Once published, the newsletter would be left in places Germans were sure to find it and read it. The Germans never had a clue it was coming from the Poles.

Prior to the Uprising, Wacław and his wife Barbara Renska rescued Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto. They would would also assist Jews who escaped the Ghetto by feeding them, providing false identities and other documents, finding hiding spots and hiding them within their own home.

Both Wacław and Barbara were awarded Righteous Among the Nations in 1973.

Let us never forget these significant Polish heroes!
